Horse guided empowerment® is a unique form of equine facilitated coaching, developed by Christina Marz. a horse woman and family therapist. Horse Guided Empowerment® focuses on the relationship between humans and horses to facilitate personal growth, leadership, empowerment, emotional intelligence and more. Horse Guided Empowerment® sessions help people learn and grow into the best versions of themselves through connecting and interacting with horses. Horse guided empowerment is available for both adults and children. At Sapphire farms our focus in on supporting youth and families. Horse Guided Empowerment® is an excellent way for families to connect, bond, and overcome conflicts and for youth to experience personal growth and learn valuable social emotional skills. 

Horse guided empowerment® at Sapphire Farms teaches team work, leadership, problem solving and helps youth and families to overcome obstacles and challenges in their lives. Our Horse Guided Empowerment® sessions can help with a great variety of obstacles such as conflict resolution, anger management, anxiety reduction, goal achievement, teamwork and leadership development.

Horse powered reading® is an evidence based reading program developed by Dr. Michele Pickel of Concordia University. Horse Powered Reading® combines social-emotional learning with evidence based reading strategies; enabling students to experience reading with all 5 senses and build a positive relationship with books, reading, and learning. Horse Powered Reading® focuses on the learning process for the individual and builds upon children’s natural curiosity and determination.

Horse powered reading:​

• Helps students identify issues affecting learning, through the use of toys and props which symbolize stumbling blocks that get in the way of understanding 
• Improves memory retention and recall through hands on learning  
• Is student centered and student led.  
• Offers students the opportunity to reflect on their learning and develop new learning skills.  
• Meets the social emotional needs of the student through connection and relationship with horses. ​

Horse powered reading focuses on the following skills:  

• Decoding – building phonics skills and sight word recognition
• Vocabulary enhancement
• Fluency development – reading quickly, accurately and with expression
• Practice of study skills
• Reading Comprehension
• Critical and creative thinking
